Welcome!

My name is Rémi Plourde and I’m a professional Web designer and developer.  Since 1995, I made countless Web sites and videos for myself, friends, volunteer projects, and lucrative businesses.

My knowledge in computers and programming is well diverse: I use Windows, Linux, and Mac systems everyday. I code Web sites in a multitude of languages, but I mostly use PHP and I’m now focusing on using the Drupal content management system. I’m also a CSS writer who will take time to deal with the quirks between browsers (including IE 6) and write W3C standard-compliant HTML.

I am originally from New Brunswick, Canada where I’ve also studied, and I’m living in Saitama, near Tokyo, Japan, after having lived in Ottawa for five years. My hobbies are Internet, photos, food, and Japan. As you may have guessed, I can speak and write English, French, and a practical level of Japanese (JLPT 3). I’m always looking for opportunities, even if I already have a great full-time job. I wish someday to experience working in Japan as a Web developer. (Not as an English teacher.)

This Web site is not complete: I yet haven’t got a chance to add my portfolio and to translate my site in French and Japanese. In the meantime, feel free to check out the few projects I’m working on:

• Ottawa Japanese Language School Web site remake, using Drupal 6 and a custom Zen theme I designed.
• Another designer and I redesigned the Mac OS X black-and-white menu icon for Dropbox.
• Web site I recently finished at my current full-time job: Kindsight (Drupal 6 with custom Zen-based theme), Cloutier & Brisebois (Drupal 6 + Zen), NHRC (Drupal 5 site with custom Zen-based theme).
• A few Web sites I’ve worked on at my previous full-time jobs: World of Maps (design), MacLeod of Glenelg (code), BandMates Network (code), Pash Weddings (code), Multicultural Calendar (code), Healthy Food Bank (code), Variations (code).
• Handlebar Studios, a new Web site design and photography company set in the Byward Market in Ottawa. They made their design, and I’ve assembled a custom WordPress theme for their site.
• Edojin, yet another site about the Japanese culture. It’s not ready yet. At the moment, it’s hosting the registration form and other information for the Canadian Tulip Festival Japan Pavillion.
• OCInfo, an unofficial Web site about Ottawa’s public transit, OC Transpo. Also home of the famous OCInfo Mobile, a Web tool for your mobile to get OC Transpo route timetables at a specific stop. (Volunteer work by me for the community.)
• Anicewong.com, a Web site of a travelling photographer residing in Ottawa.
